Experience & Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Infection Control or five (5) plus years commiserate experience
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience preferred
  • Knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, and antibiotic use, a plus
  • Strong technical experience (Microsoft word, excel, etc.)
  • Correctional Experience, a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess cognitive skills necessary to understanding terminology, medical records, and instructions
  • Possess skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and custody
  • Possess ability to organize and carry out work assignments with minimal supervision and to prioritize work assignments and departmental responsibilities
  • Strong researcher in infection prevention and control
  • Demonstrated experience maintain multiple deadlines
  • Ability to competently manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality

A background check, security clearance and drug screening are required for this role.

Responsibilities

 

Below is a list of your responsibilities as a Regional Infection Control Coordinator with YesCare: 

  • Serves as Lead infection Control Coordinator.
  • Supports statewide Infection Control Initiatives at the direction of the Regional Director of Nursing.
  • Coordinate infection control program for state.
  • Track and ensure appropriate isolation/negative pressure room maintenance.
  • Activate surveillance during peak times of infectious diseases or during an outbreak.
  • Track rates and types of infection through surveillance systems and report findings to the Regional Medical Director and Regional Director of Nursing.
  • Evaluate risk of patients, employees, and custody staff after exposure to an infectious disease.
  • Complete and maintain the annual risk assessment.
  • The Infection Control Nurse will review entire exposure process and assure appropriate documentation.
  • Develop innovative teaching methods and plans for teaching the concept of universal precautions.
  • Maintain documentation on infectious disease trainings.
  • Coordinate a series of educational classes to meet the infection control needs of a given population, as needed.
  • Acts on recognized trends of disease to establish control programs.
  • Provide fit testing for employees, as needed.
  • Oversees fit testing program for state.
  • Perform TB testing and annual vaccination, as assigned.
  • Participate in committee discussion and offers suggestions and interventions as necessary.
  • Develops policies and procedures using the literature and the national guidelines.
  • Communicate with staff about infection control problems, provides literature to support advice and action problems to establish protocols.
  • Use medical literature to establish protocols for appropriate culturing of environment and patient.
  • Review literature and use key information to develop data collection form; refines data collection process as the process unfolds; and presents data for trending analysis with proposed interpretation.
  • Analyze nosocomial infection surveillance data, performs statistical analysis, and analyze information during discussions.
  • Develop interventions for isolation in unique situations.
  • Provide consultation while triage of call and takes problem solving action.
  • Initiate new programs based on microbiology report findings.
  • Document and identify problems, initiate memos, fliers, and educational material.
  • Discuss problems involving outside agencies with administration and recommend plans to resolve.
  • Participate in CQI/Infection Control committees and establish action plans, as needed.
  • Coordinate departmental projects.
  • Adhere to internal controls established for department.
  • On call 24/7 for infectious disease and assisting in infirmary placement for isolation needs.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Comply with Correctional Facility’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of inmate records.
  • Makes suggestions for improving work conditions, as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with all infection control activities required by the RFP/Contract.
  • Collaborate with co-workers and coordinate internal projects, as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travel between all sites in state as needed to support Infection Control program as needed, may require overnight travel.
