Experience & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Experience in providing services to a mentally ill and/or correctional population preferred.
  • Must follow all applicable technical instructions and health services bulletins.

A background check, security clearance and drug screening are required for this role.

Responsibilities

The Psych Tech – Forensic Unit engages in a range of responsibilities related to providing mental health care and support to individuals involved in the criminal justice system who require restoration of their competency to stand trial.  The Psych Tech works closely with a multidisciplinary team to promote the well-being and recovery of the patients on the unit. The Psych Tech assists with treatment planning and monitors client progress.  They offer a wide range of individual and group activities, assisting in the structure and maintenance of a successful behavioral health unit.

 

Below is a list of your responsibilities as a Psychiatric Technician- Forensic Unit with YesCare:

  • Collaborates with the Multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Provides crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed to manage challenging behaviors and ensure the safety of the patients and staff on the Competency/Restoration Unit.
  • Assists in the delivery of interventions to include individuals contacts, psychoeducational programming and group sessions aimed at addressing the specific needs of the Competency/Restoration Unit patients.
  • Provides recreational activities to individual patients or groups as assigned.
  • Completes daily documentation of type of services provided and number of patients participating in compliance with legal and ethical standards and YesCare policies and procedures.
  • Monitors patients during scheduled and free time activities to minimize episodes of out-of-control behavior.
  • Implements skills workshops and programs in behavior management, and other psychoeducational activities.
  • Interacts with patients on the Competency/Restoration Unit in a socially appropriate manner to include involvement in activities or games.
  • Documents critical incidents and treatment progress in patient’s medical record.
  • Participates in the unit’s morning report and monthly unit staff meetings as well as any other meetings as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Complies with employee standards of YesCare and applicable employee standards of the facility. Compliance includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance of a working environment and personal appearance consistent with professional responsibilities, development of harmonious working relationships, and timely notification of supervisory personnel of absences from institution.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
